The Initiation of the Sage: Igniting the Power of Experience

This exciting week-long experiential program that honors the elders of today’s society. Seniors now are rich in experience and many have a desire to contribute their wisdom to family, friends, communities and organizations. The Initiation of the Sage both honors and evokes the rich stores of wisdom within. Through inspiration, ceremony, and deep personal processes, this dynamic program helps transform that which has been acquired into that which is visible and useable.

Through deep processes and rituals, you learn to exchange old cultural misperceptions of aging and take on the mantle of Sage, a carrier of wisdom for our time. In a sea of candlelight you’ll journey deep into the mystery of your own soul, and touch the Infinite Source of your life. You’ll emerge with a vibrant focus on how best to optimize the many gifts and experiences that you have amassed over your lifetime and step into the role of a positive presence for good in the world.

Celebrants of this great initiation leave with a deep awareness of their value to themselves and to their world, an activated sense of purpose and role, and a conscious choice about the legacy they leave to the world. Far from the relegation of seniors (those over 50) as marginalized citizens, the Initiation of the Sage, rekindles the beauty of the soul at every age as a powerful, capable source of experience that is both necessary and valuable.

Initiation Faculty
The faculty for this remarkable week includes the internationally-renowned leader on human capacities and one of the world’s greatest living teachers, Jean Houston, Ph.D. She combines her understanding of human potential and 40+ years of multi-cultural experience to this important call to elders to step forward into their personal and spiritual power.

Dr. Houston is joined by her working partner of 22-years, Peggy Rubin, a nationally-acclaimed Shakespearean actor and author of “To Be and How to Be”. Her great theatric talents bring the old stories of elder wisdom-keepers alive with excitement and enthusiastic engagement. Rubin’s deep heartfelt wisdom enriches and expands the journey of each person.

Connie Buffalo adds her rich Native American, Anishinaabe heritage to the week-long experience. As a ceremonialist, she adds deep ceremonies and both spiritual and practical explorations to the journey.

Music interweaves throughout the weekend and adds joyful exclamation marks to the many breakthrough experiences.

The Initiation of the Sage as a Training Option
This versatile week-long experience can be taken either for your own personal initiation or for your own deepening, as well as being trained as a trainer who can carry this process back to your own communities. “The Initiation of the Sage” as the train-the-trainer program will enable you to share the empowerment, new roles and opportunities for meaningful service in the second half of life. If an attendee would like to be certified as a trainer for the Initiation of the Sage, they would take a second track of training after the initial experience that would prepare them for teaching this course.

This intensive will enable a person to train the Initiation of the Sage as a First Level Trainer. This Certification as a Sage Trainer is based on testing that evaluates the understanding of the concepts, sensitivity to facilitating ceremony, ability to create and sustain a ceremonial consciousness and empathy towards those entering the program. The First Level Sage Certification is good for six-months during which time, it is expected that the course would be taught. During this period, trainers would submit teaching evaluations from their students and have access to teleconference Coaching once a month for the six-month period. This coaching will help trainers hone their skills and develop marketing approaches.

A second testing would be conducted at the end of the six-month period where Level Two Certification may be awarded if the trainer has proven successful during the Level One period. Level Two training is good for one year and is renewable annually through annual testing and student feedback. The names of Level Two Trainers will be listed on the Jean Houston website. There is no age requirement for those who take or want to learn how to teach this class.

Location
The Initiation of the Sage will be held in the majestic green mountains of Southern Oregon in Ashland, the home of the world-famous Shakespeare Festival. Included during the week-long training, will be an evening at the Shakespeare Theater and ceremonies in the beautiful Lithia Park.
